WOW

Women of Worth

W.O.W. stands for Women of Worth. For the women in the Lethbridge Correctional Facility this may be the only place they hear this. Every Friday afternoon for the past 5 years women from local churches have been volunteering their Friday afternoons to host a ministry time for the 30 women incarcerated there. Out of the 30 women,15 to 20 attend WOW on a consistant basis. Deanna Storfie from King of Kings has been going in with her Acting Up! Drama Co to minister through dramas and sharing the word of God with them.

Every Friday afternoon starts with a time of worship, which the women look forward to. During the week they can be heard singing these same songs while cleaning bathrooms, spending time in their cells or hanging out with other women. If they come to WOW three times they are given their own Recovery Bible which has the 12 steps to overcoming addictions. This is a powerful tool to put in their hands as this is the first time many have ever read the bible. Consider donating so that we can continue purchasing this amazing resource for the women.

Besides teaching them to navigate through their bible, topics of discussion are on forgiveness, brokenness, spiritual roots of addiction, and the Father Heart of God’s love. Once they have come six times a beautifully handmade glass cross from Julie Kissick and her Wonkets jewellry business is placed in the properties for when they leave. This is a special reminder of how God reached out to them during their time in jail. These are truly broken women, and it is a joy and a wonder to see God move in their lives.
